Airport History
Adampur Airport is located at Adampur, approximately 21 kilometres from Jalandhar in the state of Punjab. The airport shares its infrastructure with the Indian Air Force’s Air Force Station Adampur, one of India’s oldest and most strategically important air bases. Established before India’s independence, the airbase has played a significant role in the country’s defence operations and has been actively involved in major military conflicts, including the Indo-Pak wars.
To improve civilian air connectivity in Punjab, a civil enclave was established within the military airbase. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) developed the civilian terminal and associated infrastructure, enabling scheduled domestic passenger services while maintaining military operations.
Commercial flight operations commenced under the Government of India’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) Regional Connectivity Scheme in 2018.
